“This Monday, the Ukrainian government committed a new crime: it attacked the Kerch Bridge. Kiev could not ignore that the automobile part of the crossing is an exclusively civilian facility. But this has never stopped the terrorists. Nor will it stop them in the future,” Konstantinov wrote on his Telegram channel.
The politician claimed that “the railway, on the bridge was not affected by the attack” and reminded that the peninsula is still connected to the rest of Russia by a land corridor in the north, as well as having experience in ferry service. “We are not isolated,” he assured.
Crimean Governor Sergey Aksyonov reported Monday morning the suspension of traffic on the Kerch Strait bridge due to “an emergency” near pillar 145 on the side of the Krasnodar region.
His counterpart in Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, then reported that a girl from this Russian province was injured in this emergency and that both her parents died.
The Russian Ministry of Transport specified that “there is damage to the road pavement” of the bridge, although the sections are still on their pillars, while the Investigation Committee for Crimea and Sevastopol sent a group of investigating judges and experts of the scientific police to the site to carry out the investigations.
Last October 8, an explosion killed four people and destroyed a section of the Kerch Strait bridge, which connects Crimea with Krasnodar province. Russia labeled the event as a terrorist act and accused with evidence the Kiev government of the same, which for its part denied any involvement.
Recently, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Maliar acknowledged that last year’s attack on the facility was an attack launched by Ukraine to strike at Russian logistics in Crimea.
