The first joint meeting that sets the agenda of Chaves in the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CLACS) and the European Union (EU) is with the Minister-President of the Government of Wallonia, Elio Di Rupo, as well as another meeting with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The President, who arrived in Brussels accompanied by Foreign Minister Arnoldo André and a high-level delegation, will have two more bilateral meetings on the opening day: with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Ludovit Odor, and his Slovenian counterpart, Robert Golob.
A business roundtable organized by the Directorate General of International Associations and the signing of a framework cooperation agreement between Costa Rica and Luxembourg are also on the program.
The activities of the Costa Rican delegation during the first day is completed by a meeting between Foreign Minister André and his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky.
A press release from the Presidential House announcing Costa Rica’s participation at the summit highlights that afterwards the Costa Rican delegation will have a tour of several EU countries, which reinforces the interest of the Central American nation in strengthening its political, cooperation and trade ties with the European bloc.
It also seeks to reaffirm the interest to build joint actions on issues of good governance, democracy, human rights, combating drug trafficking, among other essential aspects.
The I Celac-EU Summit was held in 2013 and the second in June 2015.
