This is a process in which I consider Latin America key, since we need the victory of the peoples of that region in the new wave that is rising, he affirmed when speaking at a political-cultural festival that closed the first day of the Summit based in the Free University of Brussels.
The several times presidential candidate in France and one of its most recognized political figures highlighted the progress of the Brics group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), a bloc that several countries are close to and which represents more than 30 percent of the Global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Mélenchon pointed out that he does not know how long the long-awaited order and changes will take in the face of the United States’ determination to govern the planet and the empire of capitalism with its market logic.
We aspire to a world in which the UN is the voice of the people and the G-7 or the G-20 do not decide, he stressed before a vibrant audience, which minutes later, in a cultural segment, shook the foundations of the auditorium with the songs “The united people will never be defeated” and “Alert, alert that the sword of Bolívar walks through Latin America.”
The LFI leader lashed out at the European Union (EU) for its subservience to Washington and for wanting to impose free trade agreements on Latin America, agreements that he denounced for not representing equal ties and for promoting the market as a solution to all problems.
Regarding Latin America, he recognized the resistance of Cuba when the fall of the Soviet Union was assumed as the end of the challenge to the capitalist centers of power.
Thanks to this resistance -he recalled- Hugo Chávez, Néstor Kirchner, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, José Mujica and others came to power.
Mélenchon also warned at the People’s Summit about the threat of the extreme right and its rise in Europe.
