The note adds, that these banking entities significantly reduced last year their subordination in terms of central bank financing to return to pre-Covid-19 levels, before exceptional mechanisms were activated to guarantee their liquidity, when the Spanish ones remained below the average.
The EBA announced that the percentage of funding coming from central banks in the 162 entities in the sample used to measure that parameter went from 29.1 percent in December 2021 to 25.8 a year later.
In its annual report on this issue, the EBA indicates that banks decreased their reliance on central banks as they gradually repaid the funds they had borrowed.
This is also related to the trigger for this change in trend (the rise in interest rates to try to moderate inflation).
The consequence is that repurchase agreements became in December 2022 the main source of funding for banks, followed by covered bonds and only then, in third place, central lenders’ facilities, which were in first position a year earlier.

Bancos europeos regresan a depender del BCE
Berlín, 17 jul (Prensa Latina) La Autoridad Bancaria Europea (EBA) informó hoy que las casas financieras de este continente regresaron a su dependencia del BCE, práctica habitual antes de la pandemia de la Covid-19.
Añade la nota, que esas entidades bancarias redujeron significativamente el pasado año su subordinación en términos de financiación de los bancos centrales para volver a niveles pre-Covid-19, antes de que se activaran mecanismos excepcionales para garantizar su liquidez, cuando los españoles se quedaron por debajo de la media.
La EBA anunció que el porcentaje de financiación procedente de los bancos centrales en las 162 entidades de la muestra utilizada para medir ese parámetro pasó del 29,1 por ciento en diciembre de 2021 al 25,8 un año después.
En su informe anual sobre esa cuestión, la EBA indica que las entidades disminuyeron su dependencia de los bancos centrales a medida que reembolsaban gradualmente los fondos que habían recibido en préstamo. Ello también está relacionado con el desencadenante de ese cambio de tendencia (la subida de tipos de interés para tratar de moderar la inflación).
La consecuencia es que los acuerdos de recompra se convirtieron en diciembre de 2022 en la principal fuente de financiación para los bancos, seguida de los bonos cubiertos y sólo después, en tercer lugar, los dispositivos de los prestamistas centrales, que ocupaban la primera posición un año antes.
