Brazil: PO demands details of aggression against SC judge

brasil-fiscalia
Brasília, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) The Brazilian Prosecutor's Office requested the Federal Police (PF) to investigate as of today the aggressions suffered by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF), at the Fiumicino International Airport, in Rome, Italy.

According to local media, Andreia Munarao, wife of businessman Roberto Mantovani Filho, approached the magistrate last Friday at the air terminal, when he was coming from a lecture at the International Law Forum of the University of Siena.

Mantovani Filho was a mayoral candidate for the Liberal Party of former president Jair Bolsonaro and is now affiliated with the center-right Social Democratic Party, according to the newspaper O Globo.

His wife, a self-confessed supporter of Bolsonaro, harassed the minister because of his performance on opposing issues related to the far-right politician.

Munarao, according to what was published by the portal Metrópoles, confronted the judge under shouts of “bandit, communist and sellout”.

At that moment, an altercation began involving Mantovani Filho, his spouse and the couple’s son-in-law, Alex Zanatta Bignotto.

In addition to insults against De Moraes and his family members, one of the people went so far as to physically assault the minister’s son. On other occasions, members of the STF suffered attacks by extremist followers of Bolsonaro.

The Attorney General’s Office reported in a note that, although the prosecutor Augusto Aras is abroad, he sent messages to De Moraes when he learned of the facts.

“Aras considers this aggression repulsive, which is aggravated, according to him, by hitting the minister’s family,” the text of the prosecutor’s office refers.

The body also pointed out that the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office will take the appropriate measures in relation to the case, and the couple who provoked the attack was summoned tomorrow to testify before the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

After the violent acts, political authorities expressed their solidarity with the magistrate, including the names of the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, and of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, respectively.

Other parliamentarians and the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, also condemned the attack.

“Until when are these extremist people going to attack public agents, in public places, even when they are accompanied by their families?” wrote Dino on his profile on the social network Twitter.
