Speaking at the 3rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Fernandez noted that the ties between the two parties must take into account the existing inequalities and lack of balance.
“We can build an economic and commercial center that does not subject us to the new bipolarity that the world is envisioning. Working together, we can present an alternative to the current challenges. We must go for inclusive and sustainable development that respects multilateralism. This is the way forward for a more prosperous future,” he said.
The act of partnership involves parties who understand and benefit from each other. When only one of them does so, it begins to look more like a mockery. Our regions must promote fair, equitable and respect-based trade. Sustainable investments and diversification of our economies must drive growth by creating jobs and opportunities for our citizens, he added.
Fernández stressed the importance of respecting human rights, individual freedoms and democracy, as well as guaranteeing equal access to education, health care and decent employment.
It is the responsibility of our governments to work together to ensure that no one is left on the margins of society and trapped in poverty, he said.
He called to face the consequences of climate change together and promote a transition to a sustainable and environmentally friendly economy.
On the other hand, he asserted that CELAC is a project of genuine expression of Latin American and Caribbean interests that has among its premises to strengthen unity in diversity and continue to grow as a zone of peace.
