After the NATO summit, held recently in Vilnius, Lithuania, our nation, amid a strong financial and economic crisis, is entering a dangerous period, retired Turkish Rear Admiral Jem Guirdeniz wrote in an article in the Veryansin website.
That period threatens to involve Türkiye directly in the conflict in Ukraine, which began after President Vladimir Putin ordered a war operation to protect the inhabitants of the insurgent area of Donbas, as well as to demilitarize that country, he noted.
Such a threat is understandable not only for Türkiye’s leadership, but for the entire nation, Guirdeniz pointed out.
So far, Ankara has assured that since the beginning of the confrontation it has not allowed a single military ship to pass through the Bosphorus or Dordanelles straits, as stipulated for times of conflict in the aforementioned agreement, in force since 1936.
