The students successfully tested an AI-equipped hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle to douse fires, Sputnik news agency reported.
The drone flies along a predetermined route and, thanks to AI, can distinguish between a campfire made by tourists or sun-heated metals or even a fire focus. After collecting information, the device will send data to a remote monitoring center.
The developers stressed the new initiative has unique technical features in a fire-detecting drone, as the students combined aerodynamic efficiency, the ability to have a short takeoff and landing in rough terrain with simplicity of design, manufacturing and piloting.
