On Saturday, the head of Russian diplomacy will meet with his Thai counterpart, Don Pramudwinai, and Lavrov will also take part in the opening ceremony of the Russian Consulate in Phuket, at the Royal Phuket Marina complex.
The ministers plan to address bilateral relations, including increasing trade, economic and investment ties; increasing cooperation in culture and tourism; as well as international and regional issues, in particular, deepening and interaction on multilateral platforms.
According to the source, the opening of the consulate in Phuket will help to ensure the interests of Russian citizens visiting or staying in Thailand, as well as facilitate contacts with Thai businessmen.
After the resumption of flights between Russia and Thailand, there was an increase in the number of Russian tourists traveling to this destination.
Last year that number amounted to 435,000 people, and since May 2023 it has already exceeded 740,000. The majority of tourists from Russia, about 400,000, arrived in Phuket, the Russian diplomatic agency specified.
