As part of actions to fight off dengue, zika and chikungunya in Costa Rica, the new strategy aims to contribute to reducing Aedes aegypti mosquito-borne diseases.
The new strategy was presented by Dr. Rodrigo Marín, director of the Health Ministry’s Surveillance Directorate to nine regional directors, who provided information on management, epidemiology, patient care, lab, integrated vector management, environment and the cross-cutting axis of communication and planning.
In a press release, the Health Ministry also released latest epidemiological data (from June 19 to 25), reporting 2,712 cases of dengue, -being Huetar Caribe region as the hardest-hit with a total of 1,120 cases, followed by the Central Pacific (476) and the North Central (463).
During the same epidemiological week, a total of 23 cases of chikungunya and six of zika were also reported.
In 2023, the Ministry of Health controlled over 300,000 houses that were fumigated, over 10,000 vacant lots.
