IOC decision is unfair and politicized, says spokesman Dmitry Peskov

Moscow, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) A decision made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to invite Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympics in Paris is unfair and politicized, Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

The IOC reported on Thursday that the Russian and Belarusian Olympic Committees would not receive an invitation to participate in coming 2024 Olympic Games.

“We do not deem it appropriate. Our position is well known. We are categorically against politicization of sport,” Peskov told reporters and assured that Russia will continue to defend its athletes´ interests as they should have the right to participate in international competitions.

In a press release on Thursday, IOC stated that it will decide “at the appropriate time” if Russia and Belarus will participate in the 2024 and 2026 Winter Games.
