Egyptian lawmakers stress importance of regional meeting on Sudan

Mohammed-Al-Rashidi
Cairo, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) Egyptian legislators highlighted the results of a regional summit to try to stop the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Senator Muhammad Al-Rashidi said in statements to the press that the crisis in Sudan affects security and stability in the region, hence the importance of solving it.

Al-Rashidi highlighted the role of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, host of the event held on Thursday, which was attended by heads of state or government from the Central African Republics: Libya, Eritrea, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Jamal Aboul Fotouh celebrated the conference and the role of Egypt, which has taken in over 280,000 Sudanese since the start of fighting between the Army and a rebel militia.

Amal Salama, a member of the Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives, hoped that the summit represents a key step to end the conflict and stopping bloodshed.

Legislator Nasser Othman spoke in a similar vein, stressing that effective mechanisms were agreed upon, during the meeting, to try to solve the crisis. He also called for full respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as non-interference in its internal affairs.

Hassan Ammar, also a senator, affirmed that there is a consensus in the region on the urgent need to end the fighting in Sudan and bring the opposing parties to the dialogue table.
