Technical Secretary of the ¨Ecuador Grows Without Malnutrition¨ program Erwin Ronquillo told Teleamazonas TV channel that part of actions already rolled out so far include bringing services closer to citizens.
One of the ways to do this is by the Childhood with Future caravans which will continue to travel across the country through coming September.
According to Ronquillo, one part of this initiative focuses on education about undernourishment and the other on providing health care to population.
Healthy child check-ups, vaccinations and also pregnant women and the elderly are being attended, he explained.
The official also explained that the Secretariat will work on strengthening prevention, which is the key to mitigating undernourishment rate.
Earlier 2023, the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Ecuador (INEC) unveiled that more than 10,700 children have been randomly surveyed in a first specialized study in order to obtain specific data and establish a public policy with available resources to crack down on this aggravating factor.
Latest undernourishment survey was conducted in 2018 showing no encouraging figures, INEC President stated. “27% of children aged under 2 had chronic malnutrition.” pll/lam/nta
