In a Ministerial Declaration issued after a meeting in the eastern South African province of Mpumalanga, in preparation for the 15th BRICS Summit – to be held on August 22-24, in Johannesburg – the signatories identified eight areas of major relevance: climate change, enterprise development, skills for the changing world, mutual recognition of qualifications, out-of-school youth, labor market intelligence, early childhood, as well as university development and world ranking.
According to South Africa’s Higher Education, Science and Innovation Spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi, the Declaration is based on a shared vision of equality, solidarity, openness, inclusiveness and consensus.
In the text, the five BRICS member States committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: to fight off climate change and its impact on humans and environment.
