3rd EU-CELAC Summit to strengthen bi-regional ties

Cumbre-UE-Celac-1
Brussels, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) The European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will hold their 3rd summit on July 17 and 18 in Brussels, a forum that seeks to strengthen bi-regional ties to face the challenges of humanity.

Talks and cooperation are presented as major objectives of the meeting, a space that had its last edition in 2015, which generates expectations due to the issues on the agenda and the time without materialization.

Fair ecological and digital transitions and the shared commitment in defense of democracy, social inclusion and human rights stand out among issues to be discussed at the summit which will be headed by the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves.

In the current context of conflict in Europe, due to the Ukraine conflict, the EU was also urged to abandon the increased militarism and to imitate the step taken by CELAC in 2014, when it declared Latin America and the Caribbean a Zone of Peace in Havana.
