Named by Cuban leader Fidel Castro as “The Voice of the Revolution,” Sara (1951-2012) was the founder of the New Song Movement and one of its main exponents.
She studied composition, harmony and orchestration, produced music for film, television and radio, and shared the stage with renowned singer-songwriters from Cuba and all over the world like Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Joan Manuel Serrat.
Her discography includes the CDs Versos sencillos de José Martí (1975), Cuatro cosas (1982), Con un poco de amor (1987), Con apuros y paciencia (1991), Si yo fuera mayo (1996) and Mírame (1999).
Many remember Sara singing songs like La victoria, linked to the revolutionary epic, which will remain in the memory and feelings of her compatriots.
Her performances at the Revolution Square, in Havana, will never be forgotten, especially when Sara sang the song Su nombre es pueblo a capella, full of emotion.
