The film, produced by prominent journalist Irma Cáceres, winner of the Jose Marti National Journalism Award, had its premiere at the UPEC headquarters on Wednesday afternoon before an audience that gathered the Union´s founders as part of the activities for its 60th anniversary.
The film shows the first steps taken by men and women who set out to create and promote an institution that would unite Cuban journalists after the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959, led by Fidel Castro, and which meant a general transformation of the political, social, economic, and professional life in Cuba.
These changes were also reflected in journalism, which adopted a new model in the first days of the revolutionary process and broke with the canons of the corporate press at the service of the pre-1959 oligarchy, reminded UPEC President Ricardo Ronquillo
Unpublished archive images enrich the documentary that Cáceres explained that it is still being edited. However, she deemed it appropriate to be shown in the framework of the 60th anniversary of the organization.
