Political parties are carrying out peaceful campaigns that include meetings with their supporters, home visits, concerts, video projections and profiles on social networks, the National Electoral Council (NEC) reported.

According to the report, corresponding to the first 10 days of political campaigning, the NEC has guaranteed all participating forces the same broadcasting time to promote their political programs on state radio and television.

In that period, the report detailed, only two complaints were filed in Banteay Meanchey and Phnom Penh and both were resolved, while 15 of the 18 participating parties organized mass rallies.

The electoral campaign for the seventh national elections in the Kingdom, called for next July 23, began last July 1 and will last for three weeks.

Prior to the beginning of the partisan activities, NEC member Dim Sovannarom discussed with all parties involved the need to maintain security and public order during any event to be held.

Previously, the NEC itself called on all political groups, candidates and supporters to follow the laws and regulations established to guarantee the peaceful, fair, transparent and smooth running of the campaign.

It also asked the authorities at all levels to adopt a “neutral position” and to coordinate with all political parties, in order to guarantee equal conditions for all participants in the electoral contest.

According to statistics provided by the CNE, more than nine million 710 thousand citizens, mostly women (around five million 162 thousand), will be able to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections. A total of 23,789 polling stations will be set up throughout the Kingdom.
