It is 60 years of a UPEC deeply committed to every heartbeat of a people that has made its own Revolution, with all that this implies: facing gigantic challenges, confronting enemies of great importance, and outlining and developing strategies in search of social welfare, according to a press release issued by the Latin American Federation of Journalists and the Union of Journalism Workers in Buenos Aires.
Over and above its countless contributions to communication, there is a permanent call for improving the world of knowledge, consistent with the call of the historic leader Fidel Castro to strengthen unity in the struggle of ideas.
Established on July 15, 1963, the UPEC emerged as a result of the union of journalists until then affiliated to the National College of Journalists, the Association of Reporters of Havana, the Press Association of Cuba and hundreds of small groups.
One of UPEC´s major objectives is to defend its members in the legal and ethical exercise of their profession, in the right of access to sources and in the fulfillment of their information and guidance work.
