The event, recognized in the country as one of the military miracles of the Fatherland Liberation War, took place when the U.S. imperialists dispatched a special troop to the Osan area as an advance unit of the 24th Infantry Division.
The unit of combat experts was equipped with ultra-modern heavy weapons and clashed with the troops of the People’s Army (PLA) led by leader Kim Il Sung on the morning of July 5, 1950, in the northern Osan area.
The tanks of the KPA broke through the enemy’s defensive depth and destroyed the new type gun batteries, blocking the route of retreat, while the infantry units besieged and completely annihilated the advance troops of the so-called US “invincible division”.
After the battle, Colonel Smith, head of the American Battalion, declared: “Victory was impossible from the beginning. The People’s Army was much stronger than we imagined and, on the contrary, reality proved that we are not as powerful an army as we believed ourselves to be.”
