Cuban lawmakers reject European Parliament’s interfering resolution

Havana, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) The International Relations Commission of Cuba's National People's Power Assembly on Wednesday rejected the European Parliament's resolution, whose content highly interferes with and defames Cuba's reality.

The statement emphasizes that the European Parliament lacks the moral, political, and legal authority to judge Cuba.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Wednesday in reference to statements from the European Council and the European Commission and the status of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Cuba after EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell visited Havana to attend the 3rd Cuba-EU Joint Council.

“The text shows a high content of interference, it defames not only the Cuban reality, its legal system, and the Rule of Law, but also the relations Cuba maintains with other States in a sovereign manner, in strict compliance with international law,” Cuba denounced.

The document noted that the European Parliament’s resolution shows double standards and value judgments on issues this Parliament does not pay attention to in the territory of its own member States and in other regions of the world.

The statement emphasized that the debate that served as a foundation for this resolution revealed a strong ideological charge by a group of conservative and far-right MEPs, some with known links with anti-Cuba politicians in the United States, whose purpose is to hinder the current course of the relations between Cuba and the European Union.

Cuba’s declaration calls on the MEPs to respect the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba, and listen to the broad sectors of European societies, which advocate for consolidating dialogue and contributing to the development of exchanges and cooperation in mutual interest.
