The purchase of valuables artworks such as handicrafts, antiques and jewelry is a mechanism used for these purposes and detected in the police raids and searches of Operation Peacock which began on Monday, according to Marcio Battilana, lawyer specialized in economic law.
Investigators cited the case of the Paraguayan Oleñik Memmel and his wife Viviana Perini Roth whose house was found with paintings and handicrafts worth over $1,500,000.
The operation, aimed at increasing evidence against drug trafficker, includes dozens of raids, search for some 40 suspects of complicity in crimes as well as the intervention of 11 companies linked to Pavão before he is sentenced in Brazil to 23 years in prison in 2022.
