Sudanese belligerent closes doors to negotiations

Khartoum, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, president of the Sudanese Sovereign Transitional Council (CST), maintained today closed doors to negotiations with Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

His refusal is based on his opposition to Kenya’s presence in the conciliatory group set up by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, which also includes South Sudan, Djibouti and Ethiopia.

The RSF chairman considers that the Kenyan president, William Ruto, is favorable to his opponent.

Meanwhile, fighting continues in several parts of the country and, as a result, the number of deaths and displaced persons is increasing.

The most mentioned data on the consequences of the conflict allude to some three thousand deaths and a much higher number of injured, but the fierceness of the clashes, in which artillery, aviation and armored vehicles intervene, leads to suppose that the statistics are much higher.

On the other hand, the numbers of displaced persons converge at about three million, most of whom, some 2.2 million, fled to non-combat zones or crossed into neighboring countries.
