To the cry of “justice, justice for the colleague and his family,” dozens of journalists held a demonstration and rally in front of the Government Palace of Nayarit to denounce the murder of the reporter this week.
During the mobilization, several journalists recalled anecdotes that they had experienced with Sánchez Íñiguez.
His colleagues remembered him as a serious, professional journalist, who “loved to investigate the smallest details, to go to the places where the information was generated and to get data that served to document social movements or effects in the communities”.
They also said that they feel offended because the mechanism for the protection of journalists has failed and the person who had been designated as president of the organization was pressured until he resigned from the position.
The reporters noted that they feel “unprotected and afraid of the situations that have arisen, because there are cases of threats against journalists about which Governor Miguel Ángel Quintero Navarro has not been informed and at the Under-Secretariat of Human Rights we are told that they will defend us, but there are no protocols or real actions.”
