The person killed was not a top leader and neither was he a foreign national as mentioned in a statement issued by the US Central Command of the Armed Forces Central Command (Centcom), said the sources, quoted by Al-Watan newspaper.
They noted that the individual killed in the US raid was Hammam Yasser Al-Khader, and not Abu Usama Al-Mujaher, as claimed by the Pentagon.
Centcom reported on Sunday that it carried out a drone strike on July 7 in eastern Syria, where a leader of the self-styled Islamic State, Usama Muhajir, was killed.
The command did not provide exact details on how US military forces confirmed the identity of the downed terrorist leader.
