The tragedy occurred at 07:40 local time in the city of Lianjiang, the perpetrator is a 25-year-old man surnamed Wu. Minutes after the crime, the police arrested Wu on charges of intentional homicide.

Among the victims at the school are: three children, two parents and a teacher.

The corresponding authorities opened an investigation into the case, but local residents told the press that it was revenge because one of the deceased had hit Wu’s son with his car and never paid him compensation.

The incident generated great commotion in Guangdong and throughout China, with many voices concerned about public safety. Even some media reports indicate that it occurred within days of the death of an eight-year-old boy at a martial arts training center, where he was brutally beaten by the trainer.
