In a statement published here, the organization warns that Tania Bruguera’s exhibition, dressed up as art, in that space is undoubtedly a provocation against the Cuban Revolution that Allende defended so much throughout his political life.
“Moreover, doing so on the occasion of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the criminal coup d’etat, encouraged, organized and financed by the United States, where Bruguera resides, constitutes a nonsense that can only be repaired by canceling that activity,” the text states.
Memoria y Futuro Center is formed by relatives and comrades of those who integrated the first clandestine leadership of the Socialist Party between 1973 and 1975 and is a solid defender of the revolutionary process of the Popular Unity.
“The alleged activity distorts the meaning that inspired the creation of this emblematic museum, as an area for denouncing the blockade and aggression of the U.S. empire against countries of the region, as happened during the thousand days of Allende’s government and as has been happening happened for more than 62 years against Cuba,” the statement said.
Memoria y Futuro urged all intellectuals, artists, social movements, human rights organizations and people of good will, to speak out against the use of the museum for purposes like this one.
