Brown, who proudly serves as Ohio´s 11th Congressional District, backlashed some reports of Sunday morning´s Ohio mass shooting that left nine people injured.
“I am appalled by the shooting (…) Gun violence is devastating Northeast Ohio and Clevelanders deserve to be safe,” she said.
Police are investigating the incident as a suspect – still on the run – opened fire on a group of people at West 6th and Johnson Court around 02:30, local time.
At a press conference, Cleveland Police Chief Wayne Drummond confirmed the victims, seven men and two women, aged between 23 and 38. One suffered serious injuries, but the others suffered only minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Sunday’s report comes at a time when the Armed Violence Archive reported three dead and 17 wounded due to mass shootings in just 72 hours in different parts of the country.
Recent figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned that gunshot deaths have outnumbered those ones caused by motor vehicle traffic incidents.
President Joe Biden again called on July 4 for an end to the “epidemic of gun violence” ahead of the nation’s unstoppable wave of homicides.
Shootings happen anytime, anywhere. It is a sad record for this country to have more lethal devices in possession of civilians than inhabitants.
