The Egyptian Presidency said in a statement that the meeting seeks to establish an effective framework for a peaceful solution to the crisis in coordination with regional and international actors. President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is promoting measures to solve the situation and end the bloodshed among the Sudanese.

They are also interested in “protecting the Sudanese state and its resources, and to end the serious effects of the crisis in neighboring countries and on the security and stability of the entire region.”

The heads of state and government of Egypt, Libya, Chad, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea will participate in the meeting.

Almost three million people have been displaced since the conflict between the Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces broke out, according to data from the International Organization for Migration. Of these, some 700,000 fled to neighboring countries, 280,000 of whom took refuge in Egypt.

Both El-Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed on several occasions that the conflict is an internal matter and therefore called for avoiding any interference in Sudan.
