Havana, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Monday denounced the lack of transparency and manipulative behavior of the European Union (EU) during the preparation of the 3rd CELAC-EU Summit.

The head of Cuban diplomacy noted in a video on Twitter that such actions seriously jeopardize the successful outcome of the meeting and the possibility of reaching final agreements.

Rodríguez added that there are reasons to be concerned about the 3rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the EU, scheduled for July 17-18 in Brussels, because they are trying to impose restrictive and divisive formats to make direct and transparent discussions impossible.

The minister stressed that they are also trying to hide the content of the debates from the press and public opinion and are unilaterally organizing forums parallel to the meeting.

He explained that the European side decides on its own who the representatives of the Latin American and Caribbean region will be at those events, an approach that is not only disrespectful but also creates the conditions for these forums to become scenarios of attacks on CELAC member countries.

“There is very little time before the Summit, but it is not too late to prevent a fiasco,” Cuban foreign minister tweeted.

Rodriguez pointed out that the Summit can and should be a space for severe, participatory, and pluralistic dialogue to resolve the many global challenges, despite differences.
