Costa Ricans insist on completing influenza vaccination

San José, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) More than 650,000 Costa Ricans have already received their dose of influenza vaccine, which accounts for only 43.7 percent of the total coverage, authorities warned on Monday.

The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), in charge of public health, stated that up to June 26, only 653,563,56 people had been administered the vaccine, less than half of the population eligible to receive it.

The vaccination campaign against influenza started in late May and will be active until more people complete the scheme.

Medical specialists warned in the Teletica newscast that in some health areas, children and elderly people are the most behind with the vaccination.

Just a few days ago, authorities warned about the increase of respiratory infections in children, a disease that overwhelmed the capacity of the intensive care unit at the National Children’s Hospital.

They also warned about the low rates of vaccination against influenza in the country, especially among children and the elderly.
