Washington, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) At least nine people suffered gunshot wounds in a mass shooting in Cleveland, Ohio, as a suspect opened fire on a group of people and fled, police said.

Officers were already in the area working a weekly detail when they responded around 2:30 a.m. to West 6th Street and Johnson Court for a report of multiple people shot, the statement said. Police “arrived quickly” and provided medical aid on scene.

“Investigators are in the process of reviewing evidence and video, as well as interviewing victims at MetroHealth Medical Center,” Jennifer Ciaccia, a spokesperson for the Cleveland Division of Police said in a statement said.

Sunday’s report in Ohio comes as the Armed Violence Archive reported three dead and 17 wounded in mass shootings in the last 72 hours in different parts of the country.

Paradoxically, along with this unstoppable wave of violence, the interest in purchasing firearms is presently surging.

Recent figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned that the number of deaths caused by mass shootings exceeded those caused by motor vehicle traffic incidents.
