South Africa reaffirms support to peace negotiations in DRC

Kinshasa, Jul 6 (Prensa Latina) South African President Ciryl Ramaphosa on Thursday reaffirmed his country's strong support for peace and security in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In a press briefing, Ramaphosa assured South Africa has ever been and always will be available to the DRC, even amid its most challenging times.

The DRC has been experiencing several clashes among armed forces and attacks on civilian populations since 2018, despite the presence of the UN peacekeeping mission. South African president stated that the best way to solve conflicts in DRC is through a dialogue and negotiation, pointing out that not only South Africa is being committed, but also other governments and regional organizations, including the African Union (AU).

Ramaphosa added his nation will accompany the Congolese electoral process scheduled for coming December.

He highly valued South African bilateral relations with DRC and considered that the deals adopted in the context of the joint commission will contribute to strengthen bilateral relations with DRC. Meanwhile, Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi thanked his counterpart for his solidarity and concern for his country.
