Israeli army leaves Jenin after a 48 hours assault

Israel-Bombardea-Yenin
Tel Aviv, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli Army announced the end of the assault on the city of Jenin and the neighboring refugee camp after 48 hours of operations that caused the death of 12 Palestinians and significant material damage.

All troops left Jenin upon completion of the mission and the proposed objectives, Israel Defense Forces spokesman Brigadier Daniel Hagari said.

The IDF reported seizing over a thousand weapons during the campaign, including grenades and homemade explosives, and the destruction of an explosives manufacturing facility used by Palestinian militias.

However, after Hagari’s announcement, the top figure of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Ismail Haniyeh, claimed that the operation was a complete failure: “Israel failed and was defeated in Jenin and its refugee camp,” Haniyeh said in a statement.

Twelve Palestinians were killed, five of them minors, and more than 140 were wounded during two days of offensive. An IDF soldier also lost his life.

There were also significant economic losses and damage to numerous infrastructures both in Jenin and the camp, which has a population of 11,000 inhabitants living in an area of barely half a square kilometer.

The Palestinian Red Crescent denounced on Tuesday that over three thousand refugees were expelled from their homes in the camp as a result of the Israeli attacks, and said in a statement that the situation is very difficult in the camp, with people in need of water, food and medicine.

Both the government and the Palestinian parties condemned the new offensive, calling it war crime.
