Cuban Alba secures bronze in taekwondo at San Salvador Games

Santo Domingo, Jul 5 ( Prensa Latina) Cuban twice world champion Rafael Alba on Wednesday secured the bronze medal in the taekwondo tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games, in this capital.

Alba defeated Puerto Rican Juan Alvarez 0-1 in the over 80 kilograms division at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic complex in this capital.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the twice world champion commented that he had faced a high level athlete, although he felt comfortable despite being out of competitions for some time.

At around 4:00 p.m. local time, Alba will fight to improve his position in the final against a Venezuelan fighter.

In the over 80 kilograms division, Mexican Carlos Sansores dominated Esmerlyn Perez, from Dominican Republic, 2-0.

Meanwhile, Colombian Luis Soto overcame Daniel Thomson, from Trinidad and Tobago, 0-1, while Venezuelan Luis Alvarez beat 2-0 Honduran Miguel Ferreras.
