Speaking at the Ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is being held in the Azerbaijani capital, the diplomat reaffirmed Cuba’s support for a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, on the basis of the creation of two States, allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and to have an independent and sovereign State within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and guaranteeing the right of return of refugees, he stressed.
Peñalver added that “the Palestinian people continue to be victims of the aggression of Israel, which invades their lands, destroys their infrastructure and murders their inhabitants, with the complicity and support of the United States Government.
The violations of international humanitarian law suffered by the Palestinian people are inadmissible, he added.
“Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention continues to be violated when, in the area of East Jerusalem alone, more than a third of the Palestinians’ land has been expropriated to build Israeli settlements,” the Cuban representative concluded.
