The Ministry of Finance said in a brief statement that the US official will visit China from July 6 to 9, but he did not elaborate about the agenda.
However, talks are expected between Yellen and her Chinese counterparts, as well as with other government authorities and US business people in China.
This is the Treasury Secretary’s first trip to China. Last January, she met with Vice Premier Liu He in Switzerland and they agreed on the need to handle bilateral economic and trade discords with great moderation, while their governments try to give a positive turn to relations.
At the time, she proposed more efforts to prevent competition from turning into conflict.
