Referring to the recent appearance in Canada of posters with threats against the High Commissioner in Ottawa, Sanjay Kumar Verma, and the Consul General in Toronto, Apoorva Srivastava, the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, affirmed that his government will raise the problem with the Canadian authorities, according to All India Radio News.
He also assured that a complaint will be extended to the governments of the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom, where attacks on Hindu temples have occurred.
Jaishankar also urged the authorities of these countries not to allow violent demonstrations and hate speeches.
At the beginning of June, the disrespectful representation of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a parade in the city of Brampton caused a national outcry.
The staging on June 4 was accompanied by the sign “Revenge for the attack on Shri Darbar Sahib”, in reference to the military raid on the Golden Temple on June 6, 1984.
After the incident was publicized on social media, described as offensive by the Indian government, the Asian nation’s High Commission in Ottawa sent a formal note to Global Affairs Canada to express its displeasure.
