Ukrainian entrepreneur charged in Russia of financing terrorism

Moscow, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Ukrainian entrepreneur Evgueni Cherniak is charged in Russia of transferring over 500 million rubles (five million dollars) to his country's army for terrorist purposes, the Investigative Committee on Monday informed.

“We open a criminal file against a leading Ukrainian entrepreneur Evgueni Cherniak for financing terrorism against Russia, the investigation is in due course,” the Prosecutor General’s Office assured.

The official representative of the Ministry of Interior Irina Volk referred that pieces of evidence on having financed terrorism, in addition to the participation of two accomplices were documented by employees of the General Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-corruption along with colleagues from the Investigative Committee and the Federal Security Service (FSB).

“Two arrests were made, Evgeny Cherniak was included in the wanted list,” the press service noted.

According to the indictment, from February to April 2022, Cherniak participated in a criminal conspiracy with others to finance terrorism, “in June this year, the entrepreneur bought and delivered to the Ukrainian army military assets worth over 90 million rubles (one million dollars),” the press release added.
