Lopez Obrador slams DeSantis-backed immigration law

Mexico City, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Monday blasted the anti-immigration law issued by Florida Gov. Ron Desantis which impacts on migrants in the United States, including Mexicans.

In his morning press briefing, López Obrador reaffirmed he opposes Desantis’ law against migrants and expressed that, he who does not love his country does not love his mother.

Defending those who seek new opportunities in the United States that unfortunately they do not find in their own countries, López Obrador recalled that migrants are major workforce in the North American nation.

He described DeSantis’ reform as an action with political and electoral purposes and deceived by saying that migrants are the ones causing misfortune in the United States.

Migrants are the ones that allow the world people to develop, that is why instead of mistreating, repressing and expelling them, they must be protected as stated in the Old and New Testament.

The Mexican leader accused the U.S. mainstream press including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal of spreading fake news that migrants bring drugs to the United States.
