Former Serbian President Milan Milutinovic dies

Belgrade, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Former Serbian President Milan Milutinovic (1997-2002) died at the age of 81, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic reported on his Instagram account on Monday.

President Aleksandar Vucic expressed his condolences on the former head of State’s death and noted that Milutinovic was a man with devotion, seriousness and great dedication who performed some of the most responsible duties at difficult times and historical trials for the country.

As a witness and direct participant in the turning points at which the fate and future of Serbia was decided, Milan Milutinovic dignified and consistently defended the interests of the State and the principles of International Law and justice, despite unprecedented pressure, Vicic pointed out, according to RTS.

The former president honorably and vigorously defended Serbia against unfair accusations before prosecutors in The Hague, taking into account the interests and well-being of the country. The people will remember him as a patriot, and that he lived for Serbia to return to its rightful place, Vucic added.

For his part, the President of the Republika Srpska (Bosnian Serb Republic), Milorad Dodik, sent a message of condolences to Vucic, Serbian citizens and Milutinovic’s family.

I was deeply moved by the news of the death of a man who led and fought for Serbia in the most difficult times and a great fighter for truth, says the message, which was quoted by Tanjug news agency.
