On his Twitter account, Marrero urged the radio station’s staff to continue to do their “very important work of keeping our people constantly informed of everything that happens in Cuba and in all parts of the world.”
Radio Reloj is the only Cuban station that broadcasts news and the time every minute live 24 hours a day.
The station does not broadcast music or recordings; the only sound heard when tuned in is the ticking of clock frequencies and the voice of the announcers.
After the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, Radio Reloj covered major events that took place in Cuba, such as the speeches by the historic leader, Fidel Castro, the mercenary invasion of Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs), and the first maneuvers by the United States against Cuba.
