Guillaume has already visited the police stations and sub-stations in the jurisdiction three weeks after taking office, and met with some 70 detainees, 16 of whom have been released, he told the radio program Magik 9.
With support from the Citizen’s Protection Office and human rights organizations, we also facilitated hearings in the correctional courts, which led to the release of 24 prisoners, he said.
In addition, he prohibited the issuance of arrest warrants for private crimes such as the breach of trust and death threats.
Guillaume pointed out that former detainees can take legal actions if they think they were illegally arrested and the Prosecutor’s Office might initiate proceedings against those responsible in case of complaints.
