The topics of debates at the recent meeting of the National Council of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), held this week at the capital’s Casa de las Americas were issues such as cultural colonization and the promotion of bad taste.
Participants shared their views on the meeting’s report, “Culture as a transforming energy in the face of the global colonizing wave”, in view of the reality of the media and cultural hegemony exercised by the centers of power over millions of people.
For several years, Uneac has been sounding the alarm at every meeting with its counterparts from government institutions, especially with regard to the dissemination of low-quality products of the global entertainment industry in the circuits of radio, television and social networks.
The participants in the meeting proposed a cyber-literacy campaign for the people to learn and master the technologies available to them.
