Strong heat wave causes more than a dozen deaths in southern US

Washington, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) The heat wave caused more than a dozen deaths in southern regions of the United States, while the National Weather Service warned today that these conditions will continue.

According to Dr. Corinne Stern, the county medical examiner, eleven of the deaths occurred in the state of Texas in less than two weeks in the town of Webb, which includes Laredo.

Also, two other individuals, a man and his 14-year-old stepson, died while walking in Big Bend National Park in the same state, authorities said.

The teenager collapsed during the walk and his stepfather also died after leaving to find help.

Already during this heat wave, more than 30 previous monthly and all-time temperature records have been set or equaled in Texas.
