Peru: Nadine Heredia appeals against ruling banning trip to Colombia

Lima, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) Former Peruvian President Ollanta Humala´s wife, Nadine Heredia, on Thursday confirmed that she will appeal against the court ruling that annulled her travel permit to Colombia.

Herediaq insisted that she needs to undergo an examination at a clinic in Medellin that cannot be done in Peru, in which her health -affected by a thyroid disease- may get worsen.

Past Tuesday, a magistrate listened to her reasons and authorized her to travel to Colombia, necessary due to the restrictions imposed on her because she has pending the beginning of a trial for alleged money laundering with electoral funds received unduly, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Following such a ruling, the prosecutor Germán Juárez immediately appealed against the authorization to the judge in the case Richard Concepción Cathuancho and also requested an order to prevent her from leaving the country for three years to ensure her presence at the imminent trial.

Juarez, who has been repeatedly challenged by Humala’s defense, argued that the trip is not justified because he does not believe it is plausible that the exanen required by Heredia cannot be done in Peru.

The judge denied the authorization and accepted Juarez’s request for an impediment to travel abroad, but only for two years.
