According to a governmental statement, Switzerland rejected, however, the sale of Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine, while it subscribed to the sanctions approved on June 23 and effective as of Wednesday afternoon.
According to the document, the new restrictions include financial and travel restrictions on 71 individuals and 33 entities, including individuals, companies and organizations allegedly supporting the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.
In addition, the EU adopted some regulations such as asset freezes and a ban on entering or transiting Switzerland against members of the Eurasian nation’s Armed Forces, representatives of the state media and members of the Wagner Group.
Authorities acknowledged Bern declined the request of the RUAG arm manufacturer associated with the sale of 96 battle tanks to Kyiv in order to maintain its principle of neutrality, as the country “cannot approve the sale of arms destined for a conflict zone”.
