Lawmakers from Connecticut, US, visit Prensa Latina’s venue

pl-3
Havana, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) Lawmakers from Connecticut, in the United States, visited the venue of Prensa Latina on Wednesday, as part of a trip to Cuba to strengthen bilateral relations and to demand an end to the Washington-imposed blockade.

Geraldo Reyes Jr., James Sánchez and Anabel Figueroa, members of the House of Representatives of the Connecticut General Assembly, and Edwin Vargas Jr., a former member of that body, met with Prensa Latina President Luis Enrique González about the purpose of their visit to Cuba and their impressions.

During the meeting, the US legislators reiterated their interest in contributing to the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the Government of the United States has maintained against Cuba for more than six decades, which they described as unfair.

Sánchez stated that if they cannot bring about the end of the blockade, they at least want to relax it and promote collaboration in areas that are beneficial to both countries, such as trade, medicine, science and sports.

Figueroa, in turn, noted that upon their arrival in Cuba they found a wonderful country, about which there are many myths in the United States.

The state representative considered that the measures promoted from Washington “do not punish the government, they punish the people of Cuba.” She added that they have the mission of helping to reverse this situation.

She stressed the importance of many more US citizens coming to Cuba to see the reality of the country, not only legislators, but people in general, a criterion supported by Reyes, who noted the importance of talking with Cubans and asking them key questions.

Vargas explained the characteristics of Connecticut, its regional and national importance in the United States, while stressing that many of its legislators, including those at the federal level, are in favor of improving relations with Cuba and lifting the blockade.

González, in turn, thanked the visitors for coming to Prensa Latina during their stay in Cuba, which began on Sunday and will end on Thursday, during which the delegation also visited the National Capitol of Cuba (the parliament’s administrative headquarters), the Latin American stadium and other places.

The Prensa Latina president referred to the ongoing damage that the US-imposed blockade causes Cubans, a policy that also affects the work of this news agency.
