Such a financing exceeds the 2022-2023 figure, launched by former President Jair Bolsonaro. According to the Poder360 site, the program is further benefitting the powerful rural sector that is not so sympathetic to current President Lula; notwithstanding this sector had been following Bolsonaro in his administration (2019-2022).
During the ceremony to announce the new plan, Lula assured to make better plans than the previous ones, and noted, “Those who consider the Government thinks ideologically as it comes to the Zafra Plan are deluded.
“We´re compelled to treat each other in the most civilized way,” the leader added. Likewise, Lula detailed that Brazil has 30 million hectares of degraded lands his Government intends to recover in order to fight off climate change, without damaging nature.
According to Brazil´s Agriculture and Livestock Ministry, the new Zafra Plan aims to stimulate sustainable food production and low-carbon agriculture. The major part of the amount is to be allocated for payment and marketing, and a smaller part for investment.
