Academics, specialists from the United Nations Organization system and government representatives will meet at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
The event is sponsored by the International Labor Organization, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and German cooperation.
Attendees will be organized into six commissions that will address issues such as child labor, the preparation and development of young people’s skills for their first job, the harmonization of labor policies and social security.
In the presentation of the seminar, ECLAC points out that work is the master key to equality, the fundamental axis of social and economic integration and a vital mechanism for overcoming poverty.
According to the organization, labor markets in Latin America and the Caribbean are currently undergoing an important period of change, with technological innovations and environmental, demographic, political, and cultural trends. All this in the midst of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, whose social and economic effects continue to impact the well-being of households.
According to ECLAC, the seminar will have as its thematic guide what was stated in the eighth Sustainable Development Goal, in the sense that not just any type of paid work makes it possible to overcome poverty and reduce inequalities.
